Project Location: Durham City Hall, Durham, NC
Client: City of Durham
Located at Durham City Hall, the Office of Planning had a dilemma: a giant bright wall in the atrium was hit by the sun every day and blinded anyone in the office. Enter NC Public Art with a colorful mural to break up the wall, and speak to the mission of the facing office. “Yesterday’s Tomorrow” embraces the old and the new, the unplanned and the planned. Bold architectural forms hover over an organic, shadowy forest, the past and the future existing as one. The entire design is rendered in the colors of Durham, and seven starts punctuate the composition, referencing the Pleiades cluster on the Durham flag.
