Project Location: Apex Public Works Building, Apex, NC
Client: Town of Apex
This project was an adventure to paint! As can be seen, the mural on the side of the Apex Public Works building presides over a large water retention area, meaning the project necessitated the use of a boom lift to access. As such, we had to contract a rather large boom lift, with a long arm to reach the wall. This resulted with the need to contend with a gentle swaying while painting the mural; a state that resulted in “sea legs” every evening. To get a sense of scale, the small boy figure in the middle is about a head taller than an average adult!
As a centerpiece of public art funded by Wake County United Arts, this opportunity had to bring many elements together into once cohesive design. We undertook an extensive community engagement schedule to arrive at a pleasing design which spoke to a strong historic community on the verge of greatness.
